Buying a golf cart can be exciting when you explore various brands and models. However, many question whether buying a new or used golf cart is the better choice. Golf Cars of Louisiana wants every customer to feel confident and happy with their purchase, so we recommend considering several factors when deciding between a brand-new model or a new-to-you cart. New and preowned golf carts have their own benefits and disadvantages. You should always take your time when shopping and your choice should ultimately depend on your personal preferences. Be sure to ask us plenty of questions, and it helps to research each golf cart you have in mind. Both options can be excellent, but we recommend considering the following factors:- Lower Price – You’ll almost always spend less on a used golf cart than a new one. Some refurbished gold carts can look brand-new but cost you half the price. However, buying a new golf cart gives you access to the latest designs, features, and performance.
- Used Accessories – Generally, used carts include the most quality, trusted accessories and parts at lower prices. You’ll also find many of these parts on new golf carts, and a new golf cart purchase can ensure your vehicle is compatible with the latest features and technologies.
- History/Inspection – Golf carts can last much longer than you might assume, so buying an older model doesn't always mean it’s on its last leg. You’ll need to research a used golf cart’s maintenance history, find out how old the batteries are in an electric model, and test-drive any vehicle on your list. Warranties aren’t typically offered for used golf carts, but many new models have warranty options.

Choosing between gas and electric golf carts depends on your personal preferences and a few factors, but they’re both great choices. Many people think electric models cost more due to changing out expensive batteries, but electric golf carts’ operating costs are pretty much the same as gas carts. You’ll need to pay for fuel, filters, belts, and oil changes with gas golf carts and replace batteries with electric golf carts. A few other factors to think about include the following:- Depending on how they were built, electric golf carts can be less noisy and more eco-friendly, but they may offer less speed and power, and you deal with charging time. However, some electric golf cars can be programmed to go faster than gas options.
- Certain things can done to make gas golf carts have more power and speed, and you may be able to drive them on roads. However, they produce more pollution, require more maintenance, and are noisier.
